Sean Astin and Corey Feldman open to returning for The Goonies sequel

June 11, 2014 by Gary Collinson

Back in April director Richard Donner revealed that the long-rumoured sequel to the 80s classic The Goonies is moving forward, with Donner and Steven Spielberg hoping to reunite the original cast of the film alongside a new generation of Goonies. Well, it seems that we can count on at least two actors returning, with Sean Astin revealing to E! News that both himself and Corey Feldman are open to the sequel…

“My first thought when Dick said he was doing that was like, ‘Alright, maybe this time it’s true!’ I hope it’s true. I certainly like the idea of doing it. I don’t know if I’d be in it or not. If they really wanted us to be in it, I’m sure there would be some way to work it out. [Corey Feldman and I] talk a lot. Corey and I are buddies. He’s fired up. He’s ready to go… I think they want to focus primarily on the kids. I think the audience may be split on that, so they’re trying to figure it out.”

And as for whether The Goonies 2 will finally become a reality, Astin added that: “It’s happen, whether in my lifetime or not.”

So, it seems we can count on Mikey and Mouth returning. Now all we need is the rest of the gang…
