Presumed Innocent season 2 to follow new case and characters

October 30, 2024 by Matt Rodgers

Apple TV+’s Presumed Innocent became the number one most viewed drama on the streamer, but the studio won’t resting on their laurels with the second season, with the news that the critically acclaimed legal thriller will feature an all new case and characters.

According to Deadline the series will take the anthology approach to its sophomore season, partially because there was no clear plan beyond adapting Scott Turow’s bestselling novel for the small-screen, and also because they want to try and keep the idea fresh, approaching it in the same way that HBO do with The White Lotus.

The story notes that they might carry a couple of characters over so that there is a link between the two seasons, but according to sources the studio has acquired the rights to Jo Murray’s forthcoming novel Dissection of Murder, and that will be the basis of Presumed Innocent season 2.

Dissection of Murder follows a young lawyer named Leila Reynolds, with the official synopsis stating that “she’s way out of her depth but the defendant only wants her – and to make matters worse, her husband is the prosecutor. Soon Leila is fighting to keep her own secrets buried too.” The book is set to be published in early 2026.

David E. Kelley, J.J. Abrams, and Season 1 headliner Jake Gyllenhaal will return as executive producers, while author Scott Turow will serve as co-executive producer.
