Seth MacFarlane’s Ted prequel series sets its cast

April 18, 2022 by Gary Collinson

Last summer it was announced that Seth MacFarlane will be reprising his role as foul-mouthed, hard-drinking teddy bear Ted for a prequel series on streaming service Peacock, and now we have word on the cast for the small screen spinoff.

As per THR, the Ted series will take place in 1993, after “Ted the bear’s moment of fame has passed, leaving him living with his best friend, 16-year-old John Bennett, who lives in a working-class Boston home with his parents and cousin. Ted may not be the best influence on John, but when it comes right down to it, Ted’s willing to go out on a limb to help his friend and his family.”

Max Burkholder (Parenthood) is set to portray the teenage John Bennett, played by Mark Wahlberg in the two movies, with Giorgia Whigham (13 Reasons Why) as Blaire Bennett, “a smart and politically correct college student who is living with her Uncle Matty, Aunt Susan and younger cousin, John. She’s not afraid to be outspoken and frequently clashes with her traditionalist family.”

MacFarlane regular Scott Grimes (Family Guy, The Orville) is also on board and will portray John’s father Matty, “a blue-collar Bostonian who thinks he’s the boss in the family and doesn’t like anyone challenging him, particularly his liberal niece, Blaire.”

The as yet-untitled Ted series has a 10-episode straight-to-series order from Peacock, with MacFarlane writing, directing and executive producing all ten episodes as well as voicing the titular bear.
