Sigourney Weaver talks Avatar 2 and Marvel’s The Defenders

December 2, 2016 by Ricky Church

Alien and Ghostbusters actress Signourney Weaver has some big projects coming up, yet fans know little to nothing about them. She’ll soon be starring in Marvel’s The Defenders, the crossover series between all of Marvel’s Netflix superheroes, along with the long-gestating Avatar sequel, the first of three that director James Cameron has planned.

The Avatar sequel has been in development since the before the first film was released, but as yet there’s been no movement on production due to Cameron spending time writing scripts for Avatar 2, 3 and 4 while waiting for technology to improve. Recent rumours have suggested that the sequel could finally start shooting soon for a December 2018 release, and speaking to Variety, Weaver has given an update on the film’s status.

“In my opinion the three scripts I’ve read so far are many times more amazing than the first one in terms of their scope. James did a lot of the heavy lifting in the first movie, establishing the family and the relationships and the world, and now he really gets to play.”

She was also asked about her Defenders role, but only spoke briefly about it due to a high degree of secrecy: “I can’t say much, because they might kill me. I think everyone I work for might kill me if I tell you anything. But I have the most delicious character. She’s really smart, and she’s very in charge.”

It’s anyone’s guess who Weaver is playing, especially after many assumed The Hand or Madame Gao – who is heavily thought to actually be Marvel villain Lady Crane – would be the main antagonist, though Weaver could certainly play a high-ranking Hand member of some sort. Who do you think she is? Let us know in the comments below…
