Simon Pegg on the rumours of him appearing in Star Wars: Episode VII

July 29, 2014 by Gary Collinson

Despite the fact that J.J. Abrams stated he wouldn’t be casting any Star Trek alumni in Star Wars: Episode VII, we’ve heard on a few occasions that Simon Pegg is set for a “secret role” in the hotly-anticipated first chapter of Disney’s sequel trilogy.

Pegg was reported to have visited the Dubai set to film his scene(s), and over the weekend his Star Trek Into Darkness co-star Benedict Cumberbatch apparently confirmed the Cornetto Trilogy star’s involvement during an interview at Comic-Con. Well, Pegg has now responded to those rumours during an interview with Vulture:

“J.J. uses me in different roles, and we’re good friends. I feel like my face in Star Wars would pop people out of the movie. Look, I love Star Wars, and I don’t want people to watch and go, Oh, there’s Simon Pegg’s face. The film is cleverly cast with these amazing, unknown actors… Of course I visited the set. It’s amazing, and I love Star Wars. I want to see everything happening. It looks wonderful, and you need to believe those characters. Any type of stunt casting might just pop you out of the movie.”

So, there you have it. We won’t be seeing Simon Pegg’s face in Star Wars: Episode VII. Of course, that doesn’t necessarily mean he won’t be hiding his face under a mask in Star Wars: Episode VII, or lending his voice to a CG character…

Star Wars: Episode VII is set for release on December 18th 2015, with returning stars Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker), Harrison Ford (Han Solo), Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia), Anthony Daniels (C-3PO), Kenny Baker (R2-D2) and Peter Mayhew (Chewbacca) joined by Adam Driver (Girls), Oscar Isaac (Inside Llewyn Davis), Andy Serkis (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes), Domhnall Gleeson (Dredd), John Boyega (Attack the Block), Daisy Ridley (Silent Witness), Gwendoline Christie (Game of Thrones), Lupita Nyong’o (12 Years a Slave), Max von Sydow (The Exorcist), Christina Chong (24: Live Another Day) and newcomers Crystal Clarke and Pip Andersen.
