Simon Pegg says Benji Dunn will finally get his own character arc in Mission: Impossible 7 and 8

May 25, 2020 by Liam Waddington

Simon Pegg, who is known for playing IMF agent Benji Dunn in the Mission: Impossible franchise, says his character will finally be receiving his own individual story arc in the upcoming sequel.

In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Pegg revealed he is excited to return to filming the next Mission: Impossible instalments to see how Benji’s character arc will pan out – something he’s wanted since Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation.

“Benji is a character that’s been really fun to play,” Pegg said. “He’s evolved in each movie, from being a lab technician — who reluctantly gets involved in the action — to being a fresh-faced field agent who thinks, ‘Oh, this is great and fun, and I’m gonna wear a mask,’ to actually experiencing what it’s really about, which is not so pleasant. I’m looking forward to playing him again having been through what he went through on Fallout, which was unpleasant. I can see him not being quite as thrilled with the job, and it’s gonna be fun to play out the narratives that McQ has set up. It’s been a really long journey for him; it’s not about each individual film. He’s tracking a journey for each of those characters, not just Ethan, but all of us.”

Unfortunately, due to the ongoing global health crisis, fans of the franchise will have to wait longer for Benji’s story arc as Mission: Impossible 7 – which was originally dated for July 23rd, 2021 – is now set to premiere on November 19th, 2021. Meanwhile, Mission: Impossible 8 which previously had a release date of August 5th, 2022, will release a couple of months later in the fall on November 4th, 2022.
