Sony looking to kickstart its Valiant universe with Harbinger and Bloodshot movies

September 27, 2016 by Gary Collinson

Back in March of last year, Valiant Entertainment announced that it was teaming up with Sony for a five-film “independent superhero universe” to rival that of Marvel and DC. The initial plan was to launch the universe in 2017 with a Bloodshot movie, followed by a Harbinger adaptation the following year, with each then receiving sequels before a fifth crossover movie entitled Harbinger Wars.

Since then, we’ve heard little movement on the ambitious project, but now The Wrap is reporting that Sony is looking to kickstart the universe, but will instead gets things underway the Harbinger film, which will introduce the character of Bloodshot as a villain ahead of his own movie. The plan remains to then bring the properties together with the Harbinger Wars crossover, although the studio is also looking to develop additional spinoffs from Valiant’s deep roster of characters.

Harbinger revolves around a group of super-powered teen outcasts known as Renegades; led by Peter Stanchek, a former member of the Harbinger Foundation, the young heroes set out to take on the shadowy corporation and its founder Toyo Harada. The script has been written by Eric Heisserer (Arrival), and as yet, there’s no word on a potential director for the project.
