Sony looking to make a Ghostbusters Cinematic Universe with four movies; Channing Tatum and Chris Pratt set to star

March 10, 2015 by admin

The news broke last night that Sony had put together a “Ghostbusters Brain Trust” that would develop all Ghostbusters movies moving forward. The plan? To create a shared universe, similar to Marvel’s Cinematic Universe.

While this may seem like shocking news, Flickering Myth actually reported this news story last year, when original writer and star Dan Aykroyd said he wanted to expand out the Ghostbusters franchise.

The Brain Trust includes Aykroyd, Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters II director Ivan Reitman, Channing Tatum (22 Jump Street), Drew Pearce (Iron Man 3) and The Russo Brothers (Captain America: The Winter Soldier). This ties into the news last week that The Russo Brothers had been signed by Sony to work on four new movies.

The first movie to come out of the Ghostbusters Universe will be Paul Feig’s all-female Ghostbusters and Deadline are reporting that the second movie will be a buddy comedy with Tatum and his real-life best friend Chris Pratt (Jurassic World). The third movie in the series will be a team-up movie between the two flicks, while Badass Digest are claiming the fourth will be a prequel. However, Aykroyd has said publicly that he still wants to get Ghostbusters 3 off the ground.

Rumours of a Chris Pratt and Channing Tatum team-up movie are unsurprising, as they came out of the Sony Hack emails last year.

The first step of this process will be Paul Feig’s Ghostbusters, which stars Kristin Wiig (Bridesmaids), Melissa McCarthy (The Heat), Leslie Jones (Saturday Night Live) and Kate McKinnon (Saturday Night Live).
