Sony postpones Morbius release to October

January 12, 2021 by EJ Moreno

While the change of date fits the film’s horror nature, fans of the upcoming Morbius film will have to wait just a bit longer now. Sony has decided to move their upcoming superhero film, starring Jared Leto, from March 19th to October 6th.

Morbius was originally set for release on July 10th, 2020, before was swiftly moved to three weeks later to July 31st, 2020. When the on-going global health pandemic showed no sign of letting up in 2020, the film moved to 2021. Now, the horror influence of this film will fit right at home with its October release date.

At the time of reporting, there’s no word if Sony’s other upcoming Marvel film, Venom: Let There Be Carnage, will move from its June 25th, 2021 date but it is surely a possibility.

One of Marvel’s most compelling and conflicted characters comes to the big screen as Oscar® winner Jared Leto transforms into the enigmatic antihero, Michael Morbius. Dangerously ill with a rare blood disorder and determined to save others suffering his same fate, Dr. Morbius attempts a desperate gamble. What at first appears to be a radical success soon reveals itself to be a remedy potentially worse than the disease.

Morbius is set for release on October 6th, 2021, and sees Daniel Espinosa (Safe House) directing a cast that includes Jared Leto (Suicide Squad) as Dr. Michael Morbius, Adria Arjona (Pacific Rim Uprising) as Martine Bancroft, Matt Smith (Doctor Who) as Loxias Crown, Jared Harris (The Terror) as Morbius’ mentor, and Tyrese Gibson (Fast & Furious) as an FBI agent.
