Sony’s biggest movies of 2015 are all Adam Sandler projects

November 3, 2015 by Luke Owen

While he was mocked in the press earlier this year for the poor box office opening of Pixels, Adam Sandler is still a bankable star over at Sony. It’s not been a great year for the studio, but their three biggest domestic releases of 2015 so far have all been Sandler projects.

The current top three films are Hotel Transylvania 2 with $156 million ($373 million worldwide), Pixels with $78 million ($237 million worldwide) and Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2 with $71 million ($107 million worldwide). Not only was Sandler involved as a producer on all three films, but they all include Kevin James in a featured role. Couple that with the huge success of Grown Ups 2 (with a third movie in development), it’s no wonder why Sony keep giving Sandler money to make films.

This is, of course, all set to change this weekend with the release of James Bond’s latest outing. Spectre has already taken $80 million from its international release in six markets, and it should achieve a similar – if not greater – level of success as Skyfall, which made $304 million domestic ($1.1 billion worldwide).
