Spaceballs 2 will see Bill Pullman, Rick Moranis and Mel Brooks returning to iconic roles alongside Keke Palmer

June 12, 2025 by Ricky Church

Get ready to feel the Schwartz again as Bill Pullman, Rick Moranis and Mel Brooks are all set to return for Spaceballs 2, the sequel to Brooks’ 1987 parody of Star Wars and other classic sci-fi films.

Pullman starred as the maverick space pirate Lone Starr in a mix of Luke Skywalker and Han Solo while Moranis was Dark Helmet, one of the lead enforcers of the evil Spaceball government. Brooks portrayed the legendary Yogurt, a master of the mystical energy the Schwartz who trained Lone Starr.

Also starring in the film is Keke Palmer (Nope) alongside Josh Gad, who was already cast and is currently writing the script for the anticipated sequel.

Little is known of Spaceballs 2, but it has been described as “A Non-Prequel Non-Reboot Sequel Part Two but with Reboot Elements Franchise Expansion Film.” A sequel was even parodied in the original film when Yogurt promised Lone Starr they would see each other again in “Spaceballs 2: The Search for More Money” although it seems the title is now Spaceballs 2: The Schwartz Awakens.

The film will mark a return for Moranis onscreen as he has mostly been retired for over 25 years, only taking small voice roles or cameos on the rare occasion. The same can be said of Brooks as he has not appeared physically onscreen for nearly as long, but has performed several vocal roles for animated films and TV series, the most popular of which as been in the Hotel Transylvania films as Dracula’s father Vlad.

Spaceballs 2 will be directed by Josh Greenbaum (Strays) from a script by Gad, Benji Samit and Dan Hernandez. It will be released in 2027.
