Spider-Man: Homecoming villain reportedly confirmed for Sony’s Silver & Black

July 19, 2017 by Gary Collinson

Despite the best efforts of Amy Pascal to convince us otherwise, Marvel’s Kevin Feige has made several statements confirming that Sony’s upcoming Spider-Man spinoffs will not exist in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

However, if rumours are to be believed, that isn’t going to stop Sony from potentially linking the spinoffs to Spider-Man: Homecoming, with The Hashtag Show reportedly confirming the previous rumours that Mac Gargan, a.k.a. the Scorpion, is set to feature in the Silver Sable / Black Cat movie Silver & Black.

Gargan was portrayed by Michael Mando in Spider-Man: Homecoming, although it’s not yet clear whether he’ll reprise his role for Silver & Black. Depending which way this goes will presumably finally give us clarification one way or another as to whether Sony intends on having the spinoffs existing in the same reality as Homecoming.

In addition to Scorpion, the rumour also claims that Mendel Stromm/Gaunt, Anton Rodriguez/Tarantula, Dimitri Smerdyakov/Chameleon and Lonnie Lincoln/Tombstone will feature in the film, with the cyborg supervillain Gaunt as the main antagonist. This report omits a couple of characters mentioned in the original report from May, such as Kraven the Hunter and Norman Osborn.

Silver & Black is being directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood (The Secret Life of Bees), and is currently without a release date.
