Spider-Man: No Way Home debuts with second-best opening day ever, passes $300 million worldwide

December 18, 2021 by EJ Moreno

Sony/Marvel’s Spider-Man: No Way Home was always going to be a box office powerhouse, but no one could expect the numbers from its opening day.

Debuting on Friday with $121.5 million domestically, The impressive numbers give No Way Home the second-best opening day ever after Avengers: Endgame ($157.4 million). This number also includes the equally amazing Thursday preview screening for No Way Home, which brought in $50million previews. It looks like the industry’s budding fear of the Omicron variant shutting down this film’s chances was proven wrong.

For reference, the box office analytics firm EntTelligence projects that 9.2 million have seen Spider-Man: No Way Home so far, “that’s more people than the entire population of Tokyo City limits and Austria, and that’s not including Saturday or Sunday’s upcoming traffic.”. This is undoubtedly an event film on par with Star Wars, Avatar, and the Marvel favourites Infinity War/Endgame.

The entire weekend domestic gross for Spider-Man: No Way Home is still hard to lock down, but industry projections are not placing it around $242M-$247M. However, those numbers could quickly go up with word of mouth and the positive reviews flooding in from fans and critics.

For the first time in the cinematic history of Spider-Man, our friendly neighborhood hero is unmasked and no longer able to separate his normal life from the high-stakes of being a Super Hero. When he asks for help from Doctor Strange the stakes become even more dangerous, forcing him to discover what it truly means to be Spider-Man.

Spider-Man: No Way Home sees Jon Watts (Spider-Man: Homecoming, Spider-Man: Far From Home) directing Tom Holland (Spider-Man), Benedict Cumberbatch (Doctor Strange), Zendaya (MJ), Marisa Tomei (Aunt May), Jacob Batalon (Ned Leeds), Tony Revolori (Flash Thompson), Jon Favreau (Happy Hogan), Angourie Rice (Betty Brandt), Jorge Lendeborg Jr. (Jason Ionello), Benedict Wong (Wong), J.K. Simmons (J. Jonah Jameson), Martin Star (Mr. Harrington), J.B.
