Star Trek: Discovery’s Kalinda Vazquez to write original Trek movie for J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot

March 5, 2021 by Matt Rodgers

With the much ballyhooed Quentin Tarantino Trek movie seemingly a distant memory, and Noah Hawley’s take on the voyages of the Starship Enterprise jettisoned for now, Deadline have exclusively revealed that Paramount has tasked Kalinda Vazquez with writing an original Star Trek film for J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot production company.

Nothing is known about the project aside from the fact that it’s reportedly a script for an ‘original movie that she hatched’. There’s no indication as to whether Kalinda, whose own name is derived from a character from the original Star Trek series, will use the crew from JJ Abrams Trek timeline, whose last mission was the thoroughly entertaining but commercially underwhelming Star Trek: Beyond in 2016.

Vazquez has previously worked on Star Trek: Discovery, as well as Fear the Walking Dead, Marvel’s Runaways, Once Upon a Time, Prison Break, and is currently working with George R. R. Martin on a adaptation of science-fiction novel Roadmarks for HBO.

Which direction would you like to see the Starship Enterprise take with its next voyage? A complete reboot? A continuation of the Pine, Quinto, Urban crew? Let us know what you think by heading to our social channels @FlickeringMyth…
