Star Trek: Strange New Worlds renewed for fifth and final season

June 12, 2025 by Ricky Church

With the third season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds premiering next month, Paramount has announced the early renewal of a fifth and final season for the sci-fi prequel series.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds follows the adventures of the USS Enterprise when it was under the captaincy of Christopher Pike years before James T. Kirk took the chair. The series was given an early fourth season renewal, which is already in production, and will now conclude with a shortened six-episode fifth season that will begin production later this year.

“From the very beginning, Strange New Worlds set out to honor what Star Trek has always stood for — boundless curiosity, hope and the belief that a better future is possible,” said executive producers Akiva Goldsman, Henry Alonso Myers and Alex Kurtzman. “We’re deeply grateful to Paramount+ for the chance to complete our five-season mission, just as we envisioned it, alongside our extraordinary cast and crew. And to the passionate fans who’ve boldly joined us on this journey — THANK YOU. With three more spectacular seasons ahead for you to see and enjoy, this adventure is far from over.”

Anson Mount, who stars as Pike in the series, also shared a statement on Instagram of Strange New Worlds‘ upcoming conclusion. “I grew up watching Bill Shatner strut his stuff across the bridge and sit in a chair that I could not fathom would one day be mine to occupy. It has been a dream fulfilled. Thank you to Paramount, to Akiva, Alex and Henry who all believed in me, to Sonequa for lighting the way, and to all of you for your faith and support. But stick around. We still have many more stories to tell before we hang up these phasers.”

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds features Anson Mount as Pike, Ethan Peck as Spock, Rebecca Romijn as Una Chin-Riley, Christina Chong as La’an Noonien-Singh, Celia Rose Gooding as Nyota Uhura, Melissa Navia as Erica Ortegas, Jess Bush as Nurse Chapel and Babs Olusanmokun as Dr. M’Benga in the main cast. Also featuring are Carol Kane, Dan Jeannotte, Melanie Scrofano, Adrian Holmes and Paul Wesley as Kirk with Martin Quinn joining as a series regular in season three as Montgomery Scott, better known to fans as Scotty.

In Season 3, when we reconnect with the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise, still under the command of Captain Pike, they face the conclusion of Season 2’s harrowing encounter with the Gorn. But new life and civilizations await, including a villain that will test our characters’ grit and resolve. An exciting twist on classic Star Trek, Season 3 takes characters both new and beloved to new heights, and dives into thrilling adventures of faith, duty, romance, comedy, and mystery, with varying genres never before seen on any other Star Trek.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 3 premieres on Paramount+ on July 17th.
