Star Wars generates $1 billion of video game sales in 2015

January 1, 2016 by Gary Collinson

It’s not just at the box office where Star Wars is generating huge sums of money, with Forbes reporting that the franchise has pulled in over $1 billion of revenue from video games in 2015, spurred on in no small part by the excitement over Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

The site reports that 6 million copies of Star Wars Battlefront were sold in November, followed by a further 6 million in the lead up to the film in December, earning approximately $660 million in revenue. Disney Infinity 3.0’s various Star Wars offerings, which includes the only video game tie-in to The Force Awakens, has also generated in excess of $200 million to date.

Furthermore, the various Star Wars mobile games – Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes, Star Wars: Force Collection and Star Wars Commander – have been enjoying a boost in the wake of The Force Awakens, with those three titles pulling in over $285,000 in the single day following the release of the new film.
