Although Star Wars: The Last Jedi proved to be the longest Star Wars movie to date at 2 hours and 32 minutes, over half an hour of material still ended up on the cutting room floor, including the above shot of Rey running on Ahch-To, lightsaber ignited, which we saw in the trailers.
While there has been some speculation that this shot was from a long-rumoured fight sequence where Kylo Ren and the Knights of Ren landed on the island and battled Rey and Luke Skywalker, as it turns out, it was atually from Luke’s third lesson to Rey, in a sequence which Slash Film has detailed.
According to the site, the scene takes place after Luke has name-dropped Darth Sidious, with Rey noticing a boat approaching the island next to what appears to be a large fire. Luke explains to Rey that it is a group of bandits who regularly come to the island to plunder and kill the Caretakers. Rey wants to help, but Luke explains that the raiders would just return at a later date, leading to more death and destruction, and that a true Jedi Knight would only act to maintain balance, even if its results in people getting hurt.

Angered by Luke’s refusal to act, Rey then ignites her lightsaber and uses a force run to race across the island, only to discover when she arrives that the Caretakers are actually holding a party with Chewbacca and R2-D2 present. Rey confronts Luke, telling him that she believed the caretakers were in danger and tried to help them, with Luke then explaining that he was trying to teach her a lesson – that the Resistance needs someone who will act, not an old husk of a failed religion. Crying, Rey tells Luke that her friends are really in danger and dying, and that she was wrong for believing in the legend of Luke Skywalker, before storming away.
SlashFilm goes on to report that the reason the scene was removed from the final cut was that Luke came off as “an even bigger asshole”, and that while it had been approved by the Lucasfilm Story Group, it didn’t feel authentic to the Jedi code.
