This won’t come as much of a surprise seeing as it racked up $450 million in its opening weekend, but Disney and Lucasfilm’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi has now passed the half billion dollar mark at the global box office.
By close of play on Tuesday, Episode VIII has pulled in $261.8 million domestically, and $274.8 million internationally, for a total of $536.6 million and counting. The film is yet to open in a number of markets, including China, and with the Christmas holidays coming up it will surely end 2017 as the fourth movie to have hit the billion dollar mark this year.
Currently, the highest-grossing movie of 2017 in fellow Disney release Beauty and the Beast, which earned $1.264 billion when it was released back in the spring. Expect it to lose that position to The Last Jedi in the coming weeks.
