Star Wars: Skeleton Crew Episode 8 Review – ‘The Real Good Guys’

January 16, 2025 by Chris Connor

Chris Connor reviews the season finale of Star Wars: Skeleton Crew…

Skeleton Crew has continued to deliver thrills week on week as we’ve followed Wim, Neel, Fern and KB and their attempts to return home. With the previous episode ending on a cliffhanger and Jod and his pirate crew with the Republic mint in their sites; how will our crew escape their predicament and call help?

We get some answers surrounding At Attin and who the supervisor is voiced by Stephen Fry! It turns out the supervisor is a droid, who sees through Jod’s ruse as both a Jedi and Republic emissary. Confining the children to their quarters Jod takes over the command centre and brings in his crew to cause mayhem.

One of the most refreshing elements of Skeleton Crew, in an era of ever expanding franchises that often have to interlink; is how self-contained it has been. We’ve of course had mentions of events that have taken place previously but for the most part it has been its own slice of fun, kept apart from the hijinks of Din Djarin, Boba and characters from Ahsoka.

While the New Republic is involved in fighting off the pirates, it feels earned given their appearance earlier in the series and hasn’t come out of the blue.

Skeleton Crew’s finale is full of heart and all the elements that have made the show resonate with fans. It is full of action and no shortage of twists. As with the show as a whole, it shows the potential the franchise has to tell a wealth of stories away from the Skywalker saga and existing media, creating something that feels fresh for all the influences it has worn on its sleeve.

Whether or not we’ll see the crew or any of the additional cast in future remains to be seen, but with the level of fan interest in the show and critical reception, you would think there is potential for them to be incorporated into Dave Filoni’s crossover film at the very least and with At Attin now open to the wider world, it will be easy to crossover with other parts of the franchise.

Skeleton Crew was exactly what the franchise needed after the performance and cancellation of The Acolyte. With Andor’s second season to come, Star Wars feels back on a firmer footing, setting up the future of this corner of the franchise in a welcoming manner.
