Syfy gives Superman prequel series Krypton pilot order

May 9, 2016 by James Garcia

Last month, reports hit that Syfy was looking to place a pilot order for a Superman prequel series from Man of Steel and The Dark Knight trilogy screenwriter David S. Goyer, and now that news is official: A Krypton pilot is moving forward.

As previously reported, the show “is set two generations before the destruction of the legendary Man of Steel’s home planet. It follows Superman’s grandfather — whose House of El was ostracized and shamed — as he fights to redeem his family’s honor and save his beloved world from chaos.”

Joining Goyer (who is serving as executive producer) on the project is Sleepy Hollow‘s Damian Kindler, who will serve as both an executive producer and showrunner. The script will be penned by Goyer and Once Upon a Time alum Ian Goldberg, and directed by Colm McCarthy (Sherlock, Peaky Blinders).

Executive vice president of scripted talent at NBC Universal Cable Entertainment, Bill McGoldrick, released this statement about Krypton:

“Krypton is one of the most iconic stories in the comic book universe. In the talented hands of David S. Goyer and the DC Entertainment/Warner Horizon Television team, this exciting Syfy project will take viewers back to Superman’s home to show how the timeless legend began.”

Despite Goyer’s connection with Man of Steel and this year’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, there is no indication that this new series will take place in the same DC Extended Universe continuity.
