Syfy is shooting a sequel to Deep Blue Sea

July 1, 2017 by Gary Collinson

No doubt spurred on by the success of its Sharknado series, Syfy is dipping its toes back into the sharksploitation genre, with Moviehole reporting that the network has kicked off production on a made-for-TV sequel to 1998’s Deep Blue Sea.

The site reports that the project is currently shooting in Cape Town, with Darin Scott (House Party: Tonight’s the Night) directing and Michael Beach (The 100) starring. The plot revolves around Dr Klaus Van Etten, who is experimenting on bull sharks, which of course soon get out and all hell breaks loose.

Deep Blue Sea was directed by Renny Harlin and starred Saffron Burrows, Thomas Jane, LL Cool J and Samuel L. Jackson. A straight-to-video sequel was planned in 2008, although it failed to materialise.
