Sylvia Hoeks to play Emmanuelle’s Sylvia Kristel in biopic

February 18, 2018 by Gary Collinson

Blade Runner 2049 actress Sylvia Hoeks is set to portray Sylvia Kristel, the Dutch model and actress best known for her role in the softcore porn series Emmanuelle, in a biopic which is set to be directed by Michael R. Roskam (Bullhead, Drop).

Variety reports that the untitled drama will focus on Kristel’s career in the 1970s and 80s, where the huge success of Emmanuelle stood in stark contrast to her troubled personal life, which includes a series of relationships and an addiction to cocaine.

“Sylvia Kristel was one of the women that opened up a sexual way of looking at sex for women,” said Hoeks. “She was also very free-spirited, maybe even too early in that regard for her generation. Her intelligence and creativity as an artist made her difficult to grasp. You couldn’t have a full sense of who she was.”

“Kristel’s unique career, her personality and her intriguing romantic life, in combination with this incredible team, will make this a great movie,” added Roskam.

Released in 1974, Emmanuelle starred Kristel in the title role as a woman who takes a trip to Bangkok to enhance her sexual experience. Despite mixed reviews, the film proved to be a hit with audiences and spawned six sequels, with Kristel returning for four of them.
