The last few years have seen the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise brought back into the zeitgeist with its latest animated movie Mutant Mayhem and its TV continuation as well as the sequel currently in development, along with news of a new live-action film, but one story that preceded the film and became incredibly popular was Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin from creator Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird, and Tom Waltz.

The Last Ronin was announced in 2023 to be getting a video game adaptation, but that project was stalled. Over the weekend at the Summer Game Fest, Paramount announced the game is back in development through Paramount Games Studio and Platinum Games for current consoles and PC, releasing an announcement trailer for the anticipated game.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin takes place in a dystopian future where the Foot Clan is led by Shredder’s grandson and has taken control of New York City. The Ronin is the last surviving teenage mutant ninja turtles after his three brothers and father Splinter were killed decades prior when the Foot claimed the city as their own. Driven by regret and vengeance, he embarks on one last mission to avenge his family and put an end to the Foot Clan once and for all.
The Last Ronin has proven to be incredibly popular and beloved by fans since its publication, launching its own ‘Roninverse’ which includes a prequel series, a sequel and the upcoming one-shot comic The Last Ronin: Training Day taking place during the original story. An R-rated live-action film was in development, but that has been cancelled in favour of a new and more family friendly live-action film Paramount is keen to produce. However, Eastman recently said not to give up hope for a Last Ronin film as he thinks it is simply a matter of time before it gets made.
