The 100 prequel series in development

October 24, 2019 by Ricky Church

With the seventh and final season of The CW’s The 100 premiering next year, the network is now developing a prequel series to the post-apocalyptic sci-fi series. The 100 showrunner Jason Rothenberg will serve as its showrunner and producer after completing a script that will serve as a backdoor pilot in the final season of The 100.

The prequel will take place “97 years before the events of the original series. It starts with the end of the world, a nuclear apocalypse that wipes out most of the human population on Earth, and follows a band of survivors on the ground as they learn to cope in a dangerous world while fighting to create a new and better society from the ashes of what came before.”

The 100 revolves around the last remnants of humanity living aboard a space station called The Ark. When The Ark sends a group of 100 criminal adolescents to the surface to see if the planet if viable again for human life, they quickly discover not all life on Earth was wiped out and have to fight to survive a harsh environment. The series is based on the young adult novels from author Kass Morgan, though the series has largely diverted from the books. The series has starred Eliza Taylor, Bob Morley, Marie Avergopoulos, Paige Turco and Henry Ian Cusik.

The final season of The 100 will run for 16 episodes and premiere in 2020.
