The Baby in the Basket is streaming now on Tubi in the U.S.

February 23, 2025 by Gary Collinson

It’s been a rather monumental week in the 15+ year run of Flickering Myth this week as we took our first steps into the world of independent filmmaking with the release of our gothic horror film The Baby in the Basket.

From popping up in the likes of The Guardian and Fangoria (thanks in no small part to a fantastic PR campaign courtesy of Wez, Kinga and the folks at Strike Media) to hitting the shelves of HMV, Fopp and Asda with a physical release here in the UK this past Monday (off the back of a big screen release in the Philippines earlier this month!), it’s been a pretty wild ride launch so, and now we’re delighted to announce that audiences in the U.S. can now check out our little indie gothic horror – completely free! – via streaming service Tubi.

So, for any US readers out there looking for some “low budget nun fun” (The Guardian) or a little throwback British gothic horror this weekend, be sure to load up Tubi, take a look, and jump on our social channels @FlickeringMyth to let us know what you make of this first offering from Flickering Myth Films and its collab with Shepka Productions.

We’ve also got a signed cast poster up for grabs over on our free Patreon page (and just 3 sign-ups away from picking a winner as of the time of writing). And, for our readers in the UK, The Baby in the Basket is also available digitally via Prime Video, Apple TV and Sky Store as well as in stores and on Amazon and HMV on DVD.

And, in one final piece of housekeeping, if you’d like to get yourself involved with Flickering Myth and Shepka Productions’ next project, the suspense thriller Death Among the Pines, we’ll soon be launching a new crowdfunding campaign for finishing funds (we’re already half-way through production) offering special thanks, Associate and Executive Producer credits, voice roles and more. You can find the pre-launch page here and we’ll be officially announcing more details about the film on Flickering Myth in the coming days.

It’s 1944 and World War Two rages on. The sisters of St. Augustine’s, a convent on a remote Scottish island, are preparing for an incoming storm. One night a cloaked figure leaves a baby in a basket and disappears, never to be seen again.

The nuns take in the boy, and agree to look after him until the storm passes when they will take the child to the mainland for permanent care. However, after a night under their watch, unsettling things begin to happen with the newest addition to the convent. Sister Agnes (Amber Doig-Thorne) suspects the child is the spawn of Satan, causing her to be locked away for fear that she’s been driven mad by the isolation.

But increasingly strange occurrences lead the sisters to question their faith and everything they believe, they wonder has Sister Agnes fallen victim to the desolation of the remote island setting or was there really weight in her suspicions?

Starring Amber Doig-Thorne (Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey), Michaela Longden (How to Kill Monsters), Elle O’Hara (Cara), Lisa Riesner (No Dogs Allowed) and Nathan Shepka (When Darkness Falls) alongside veteran British talent Annabelle Lanyon (Legend), Maryam d’Abo (The Living Daylights) and Paul Barber (The Full Monty).
