The Batman director Matt Reeves comments on Josh Gad pushing for Penguin role

February 1, 2019 by Samuel Brace

Matt Reeves, the director of The Batman, has commented on Josh Gad teasing a potential role as the Penguin.

A fresh batch of excitement has been propelled the way of Matt Reeves’ The Batman film as a result of an announced release date of 2021 and that the film will feature a new actor as the Caped Crusader.

But what about the villains? Well, Josh Gad has been pushing for a role as the Penguin in the film for some time now. Could it actually happen? Matt Reeves reacted to the idea during a recent interview with THR. An excerpt from the conversation can be read below:

“Reeves is remaining mum when asked if The Batman will feature villains new to the big screen or baddies audiences have seen before, but when pressed he did react to Josh Gad’s not-so-subtle Twitter teases that fans have interpreted as the actor lobbying to play the classic villain The Penguin.

“‘I love Josh Gad,’ Reeves says, noting that his son is in class with the actor’s daughter. “We’re good friends.'”

Well, that certainly wasn’t a no but it also wasn’t anything to hang your hat on. But Reeves did comment further on what the villain situation will look for the film:

“You can’t have Batman without a villain. There will be a rogues gallery.”
