The Beekeeper duo of Jason Statham and David Ayer reteaming for amnesia action flick John Doe

April 28, 2026 by Matt Rodgers

Jason Statham and David Ayer are forming a formidable director-star double-act with the news that The Beekeeper and A Working Man collaborators are set to team up once again for John Doe.

According to Deadline, Ayer (Suicide Squad, Fury) will direct the action-thriller from a screenplay by Zak Penn (Ready Player One, The Incredible Hulk).

In John Doe Statham will play the Man With No Name, a character “with no memory, no past, and no name — and only one face he can’t forget: Eliza. As fragments of his identity return, he discovers he was trained for a mission still in motion and is being hunted by the very people who sent him. With enemies closing in, John must choose between finishing what he started… or protecting the one thing that makes him feel human: love.”

Miramax and Black Bear will produce John Doe in the hopes that it sees the kind of box-office returns that The Beekeeper ($163 million) and A Working Man ($89M) has generated. Production is set to get underway in 2026.

Statham returns to the hive in 2027 with The Beekeeper 2, with directorial duties handed over to Timo Tjahjanto (Nobody 2).
