The classic horror movies that will serve as inspiration for Justice League Dark

May 8, 2017 by Jordan Jones

The upcoming DC movie Justice League Dark (a.k.a. Dark Universe) is still in its very early stages, but director Doug Liman has recently offered up a bit of insight into the project. Speaking to CinemaBlend, the director revealed some of the classic horror films that have served as inspiration for the film:

“It’s going to have real horror elements, for sure. I love early horror films, be it The Exorcist, or Carrie, The Omen. In the same way that Bourne Identity, I went back to the ’70s paranoia. There’s stuff to be mined from the people who have come before me that I’m planning to bring to Justice League Dark. And also the arena, my good friend Simon Kinberg, with Deadpool really pushed the arena. I’m never going to do something that’s straight-forward, but I’m not going to do something campy either. I have a take on it that isn’t like anything else out there. At the end of the day I make character driven movies.”

While it was disheartening to learn that Guillermo del Toro had stepped down from the project last summer, at least the movie seems to be in good hands with Doug Liman.

Justice League Dark is responsible for the other-wordly tasks that the regular Justice League cannot deal with. Headed by John Constantine, the group deals with threats from the supernatural realm. Other members have included Madame Xanadu, Zatanna, and Swamp Thing. To learn more about the world of Justice League Dark, check out the comics, or recent DC animated movie.
