The Crown adds Josh O’Connor and Marion Bailey

July 26, 2018 by Ricky Church

As Netflix gears up for the third season of The Crown, the series has added two more additions to its cast, with The Hollywood Reporter revealing that Josh O’Connor (Florence Foster Jenkins) will portray Prince Charles and Marion Bailey (Allied) as the Queen Mother.

The pair are replacing Julian Baring and Victoria Hamilton in the roles from the previous two seasons. Season 3 of The Crown will flash forward to 1964 with the new cast continuing on until the fourth season, where they will once again recast the actors to play the aged up characters as the series depicts the life of Queen Elizabeth II.

“I am thrilled to be joining The Firm for the next instalment of The Crown,” O’Connor said. “Seasons three and four will follow some of the most turbulent events in the Prince of Wales’ life and our national story and I’m excited to be bringing to life the man in the midst of it all. I’m very aware it’s a formidably talented family to be joining, but reliably informed I have the ears for the part and will fit right in.”

“Wonderful to be joining The Crown,” said Bailey. “It’s a brilliant show and we have a tough act to follow but what a gift to be playing the fascinating and greatly loved Queen Mother. Thrilled to be on board and working with such a top-notch team.”

The pair join Olivia Colman as Queen Elizabeth, Tobias Menzies as Prince Philip, Helena Bonham Carter as Princess Margaret, Erin Doherty as Princess Anne and Ben Daniels as Antony Armstrong-Jones. The new season is expected to cover major events in British history such as Princess Margaret’s affair with Roddy Llewellyn, Margaret Thatcher’s political rise and the introduction of Camilla Parker Bowles.

There is no word when The Crown Season 3 will premiere, but it is currently filming its third and fourth seasons back-to-back with Season 3 expected to arrive later this year.
