The Flash director Andy Muschietti says the film will go “where the DC Universe hasn’t gone before”

December 7, 2020 by Liam Waddington

With The Flash movie scheduled to begin filming in early 2021, director Andy Muschietti has provided a small update on the direction of the Ezra Miller-starring DC movie.

In a brief video that aired during Warner Bros.’ presentation at this year’s virtual CCXP convention, Muschietti teased that the film will go places “where the DC Universe hasn’t gone before.”

The Flash movie “will take you to a place where the DC Universe hasn’t gone before, so it’s very exciting,” Muschietti said. “I can’t wait to tell you more, but for now, I want to thank you for the support and for being such amazing fans.”

While exact plot details are being kept under wraps, comments previously made by producer Barbara Muschietti implied that The Flash movie may be using a loose adaptation of the Flashpoint storyline to redefine what the DCEU will look like in future films as the film will “restart everything.”

“Well, I want you to go see it, so I’m not going to tell you a lot,” Muschietti explained. “But what I will tell you is that it’s a ride. It’s going to be fun and exciting and there are a lot of DC characters in it. Flash is the superhero of this film because he is the bridge between all of these characters and timelines. And in a way, it restarts everything and doesn’t forget anything.”

Andy Muschietti is set to direct The Flash from a script Bumblebee writer Christina Hodson, who penned the 2020 DC film Birds of Prey (And The Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn). The cast is set to include Ezra Miller as The Flash and both Ben Affleck and Michael Keaton who will be returning as their iterations of Batman for substantial roles.
