The Mandalorian may explore the origins of the First Order teases Jon Favreau

September 6, 2019 by Samuel Brace

Jon Favreau, the showrunner for The Mandalorian, teases that the series could explore the origins of the First Order.

Thanks to The Mandalorian‘s setting between the events of Return of the Jedi and Star Wars: The Force Awakens, it’s fertile ground for exploring the vacuum left by the Empire and how it is eventually filled by The First Order.

Could we see this play out on screen? Well, in a recent interview, Jon Favreau and director Dave Filoni teased to EW how their show fits into the larger Star Wars timeline. Favreau said: “Also, what could happen in the 30 years between celebrating the defeat of the Empire and then the First Order? You come in on Episode VII, [the First Order are] not just starting out. They’re pretty far along.

Filoni added: “Pretty well equipped.”

Favreau then continued: “So somehow, things weren’t necessarily managed as well as they could have been if [the galaxy] ended up in hot water again like that.”

It’s certainly going to be fascinating to see what the show decides to tackle. Star Wars fans are surely going to be in for a treat once the series lands on Disney+ later this year.

The Mandalorian sees Pedro Pascal (Game of Thrones) leading a cast that includes Gina Carano (Deadpool), Carl Weathers (Rocky), Nick Nolte (Afflication), Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad), Emily Swallow (Supernatural), Omid Abtahi (American Gods), Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok), Ming-Na Wen (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) and Werner Herzog (Grizzly Man). It is set to premiere on Disney+ on November 12th 2019.
