The Russo Brothers aren’t confident they’ll fit Daredevil or the Defenders into Avengers: Infinity War

May 3, 2016 by James Garcia

Remember when Captain America: Civil War directors Anthony and Joe Russo teased that we could see as many as 68 characters in their next big Marvel team-up movies, Avengers: Infinity War parts 1 and 2? Well, as it turns out, Daredevil, the Defenders, or any other characters from the television side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe likely won’t be among them.

In a new interview with BadTaste.it, the Russo brothers were asked about whether or not they’d be bringing characters like Daredevil into the fold, and their answer was, while a non-committal “maybe,” not very encouraging:

“The Marvel Universe is sprawling – the Marvel Cinematic Universe is enormous. Just think of all the characters that haven’t been introduced yet that are going to be introduced by the time that we’re working on Infinity War. We have a tough task just telling the stories of the characters who exist [on the big screen] in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, let alone adding the entire Marvel Television universe. Anything is possible in Marvel. It’s certainly something we’re considering. But our focus is on telling the stories of the characters that currently exist on the movie side.”

While it would be cool to see Daredevil fight side by side with the likes of Captain America, Iron Man, Hulk, and maybe even Spider-Man on the big screen, the fact that he probably won’t doesn’t come as that big of a surprise. Not only will he and the other Netflix heroes (and anti-heroes!) be busy with their own team-up Defenders series, but movie characters like Captain Marvel and Doctor Strange have yet to make their debut, while some of those who have been introduced, like the Guardians of the Galaxy, haven’t even met Earth’s Mightiest Heroes yet. The Russos already have a pretty full roster on their plate, so bringing street-level characters like Jessica Jones or Luke Cage into the fold likely isn’t taking top priority.

What do you think of this new update? Are you disappointed that the TV and film side of the MCU won’t be crossing over anytime soon?

Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 is slated to hit theaters on May 4, 2018, while Part 2 will blast into theaters one year later, on May 3, 2019.
