The Shining sequel Doctor Sleep finds its Wendy Torrance, Dick Halloran and Crow Daddy

August 2, 2018 by Gary Collinson

Deadline is reporting that Warner Bros.’ Stephen King adaptation Doctor Sleep has cast Alex Essoe (Starry Eyes) and Carl Lumbly (Supergirl) as Wendy Torrance and Dick Halloran, characters portrayed by Shelley Duvall and Scatman Crothers in Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining.

The duo join the previously announced Ewan McGregor (Christopher Robin), who is playing the now-adult Danny Torrance, while Rebecca Ferguson (Mission: Impossible – Fallout) is set to portray Rose the Hat, the leader of The True Knot – a psychic cult which feeds on the “steam” created by children who possess the shining.

In addition to Essoe and Lumbly, Variety is reporting that Zahn McClarnon (Westworld) is in talks to play Crow Daddy, a member of the villainous cult and the right hand man to Ferguson’s Rose the Hat.

Doctor Sleep takes place 36 years after The Shining and finds Danny as a drifter, desperately trying to shed his father’s legacy of despair, alcoholism and violence. Working in a hospice where he earns the nickname Doctor Sleep by using his gift to help the dying, Danny meets a young girl who possesses incredibly high psychic abilities, who is being hunted by the True Knot.

Doctor Sleep is being written and directed by Mike Flanagan (Gerald’s Game) and is set for release on January 24th 2020.
