The Silence of the Lambs sequel series Clarice cannot mention Hannibal Lecter

December 20, 2020 by EJ Moreno

Clarice Starling is returning to stop more killers, but don’t expect her greatest foe Hannibal Lecter to be one of them.

In the upcoming CBS series titled Clarice, which will follow the FBI Agent after the events of The Silence of the Lambs, the series’ creator says they can not use Hannibal at all due to rights issues.

In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Alex Kurtzman opened up about not using the character but finding that limitation as a refreshing challenge:

“I’m still trying to understand how the rights are divided,” said Kurtzman. “But it’s been quite liberating because we have no interest in writing about Hannibal, not because we didn’t love the films and the show, but because it was done so well by so many people that it didn’t feel fresh for us.”

The series follows FBI Agent Clarice Starling (Rebecca Breeds) as she returns to the field after the events of The Silence of the Lambs. She will pursue more serial murderers and sexual predators and maybe encounter another old foe, all while trying to navigate the high stakes political world of D.C.
