The Week in Star Wars – Rogue One character details and artwork, rumoured Episode VIII title and scene description, and more

May 22, 2016 by Luke Owen

In this edition of The Week in Star Wars, we’ve got some character details for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, a couple of Star Wars: Episode VIII rumours and more…

We’re kicking this off this week with some official news about Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. The film is just seven months away, and to get us excited a preview of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story: The Official Visual Story Guide arrived online this week which offered up some new artwork, character names and details, and information on some of the vehicles from the Gareth Edwards-directed Anthology movie. Check out those out here…

…Notice Darth Vader there? Remember our exclusive on that casting?..

…Jumping to Star Wars: Episode VIII now and Oscar Isaac has echoed the sentiments of John Boyega, saying the film will be a much darker sequel. “In the new film, there’s a lot more to do,” he says. “What happens now is the heroes get tested. All three of them, [Poe, Daisy Ridley’s Rey and John Boyega’s Finn] get tested immensely. BB-8’s doing all right. BB-8 gets tested too! Everybody gets tested! It’s the dark second chapter, but not really dark…”

…Speaking of Oscar Issac, the man himself features in X-Men: Apocalypse which opened this weekend. I wasn’t a fan. You can read my review here…

…Moving over to the rumour portion of The Week in Star Wars, and it’s worth taking the next pieces of news with a pinch of salt. However the usually reliable Making Star Wars have details of a spoiler-filled scene from Star Wars: Episode VIII between Luke Skywalker and Rey. Read about it here, but beware this could be potential spoilers…

…But that wasn’t the only rumour for Star Wars: Episode VIII this week, as a video landed on Instagram from someone claiming to work for Star Wars Celebration which claimed to know the film’s official title. They claim the film will be announced as Star Wars: Fall of the Resistance and this will be announced when Disney and Lucasfilm come down to London later this year. However, Pablo Hidalgo – who has shot down previous rumours –  tweeted this earlier in the week:

…Hot Toys unveiled its upcoming 1/6th scale collectible figure of Yoda from Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back; check it out here…

…Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, TT Games, The LEGO Group and Lucasfilm released a new trailer for the upcoming LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens video game, which spotlights Oscar Isaac’s character Poe Dameron; check it out here, and you can order LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens via Amazon US or Amazon UK.

…And finally here are your comic book previews for the week. First up is Star Wars: Obi-Wan and Anakin #5: War breaks out…with our Jedi caught in the middle! Master and apprentice come to an important realization. Marvel’s first Jedi-centric miniseries draws to a dramatic close! Next up is Star Wars: Han Solo #1: Everyone’s favorite scoundrel gets his very own series! Han is given a top-secret undercover mission for the Rebellion — rescuing a number of informants and spies. His cover for the assignment? Only the biggest and most infamous starship race in the galaxy! You know — the race Han has dreamt of winning his entire life. Will he keep his mind on the mission? And can he manage to pull it off while keeping the lead? Best-selling author Marjorie Liu (X-MEN) comes to the Galaxy Far, Far Away along with superstar cover artist Mark Brooks (ULTIMATE X-MEN) in his return to interior art! Face it, readers — there aren’t enough scoundrels in your life!. And here’s the preview for Marvel’s Star Wars #19: Will Leia be able to save a prison full of Imperial forces? Or will the mastermind of the takeover strike back against the Empire? Find out as “Rebel Jail” concludes!

Order Star Wars: The Force Awakens via Amazon UK or Amazon US

That’s all for this week – may The Force be with you.
