Tom Hardy says he’s contracted for three Venom movies, new TV spot released

August 27, 2018 by Gary Collinson

We’re now just a little over a month away from the release of Venom, a movie that Sony hopes will launch a shared cinematic universe based upon the supporting players of the Spider-Man IP (less the web-slinger himself, at least initially).

Apparently, ‘Sony’s Universe of Marvel Characters’ (as its said to be referred to internally at the studio) hinges on the success of Venom, and if it proves to be a hit – which early tracking suggests it will – then the studio is ready to press ahead a host of other Spidey projects.

And, according to Tom Hardy, said projects could well include a further two Venom appearances, with the actor telling Total Film that he’s contracted for three films, which may or may not include crossovers with other characters.

“We’ve signed up for three of them,” said Hardy, who by referring to himself in the plural is presumably still in #WeAreVenom character. “So it’s very much an open case. We’ll see what people’s responses are to it. I think it’s an awesome character. I love playing both of them. It’s an amuse-bouche, and for Sony, it’s the Venom-verse launched in isolation, as it were. We’re all prepped for it to be a standalone universe. So whatever Sony want to attach to it at a later date, it’s a fulcrum piece. But let’s see what happens when it lands.”

One of Marvel’s most enigmatic, complex and badass characters comes to the big screen, starring Academy Award nominated actor Tom Hardy as the lethal protector Venom.

Directed by Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland), Venom is set for release on October 5th 2018 and features a cast that includes Tom Hardy, Riz Ahmed, Michelle Williams, Woody Harrelson, Jenny Slate, Reid Scott, Scott Haze, Sope Aluko and Ron Cephas Jones.
