Torchwood: The Empire Man to deliver a Victorian ghost story this Christmas

November 10, 2022 by Andrew Newton

Big Finish Productions has announced that a new full-cast audio adventure in the Torchwood Monthly Range is now available to pre-order from their website.  This new Torchwood audio adventure is due for release this December and is a spooky seasonal story featuring Queen Victoria.

This Christmas season enjoy a ghostly Victorian story with Torchwood: The Empire Man, forget your cosy Christmas jumper and those sneaky, snitching Elves on Shelves and enjoy a spooky tale with good old Queen Vic’, played by Rowena Cooper.

In this new tale listeners are taken to an 1800’s Christmas Eve where, in a secret library beneath Buckingham Palace, Queen Victoria prepares to meet her new prime minister for a very private tradition.  At one hour to midnight, the queen tells the new prime minister tales of aliens and the supernatural, although these are not fictitious campfire stories.  Unfortunately for the two most important people of Great Britain, something else has gained access to the secret library and the pair find themselves not alone.

Writer Jonathan Barnes said: “It’s a Torchwood ghost story for Christmas! The Empire Man contains three linked ghost stories which have an unexpected conclusion, with Queen Victoria as the master of ceremonies.”

As well as Rowena Cooper as Queen Victoria, the cast also includes Hugh Fraser as palace footman, Castringham, Richard David-Caine as the Prime Minister and Patience Tomlinson as Queen Victoria’s former nanny, Mrs Wickmere.

Torchwood: The Empire Man is available to pre-order from the Big Finish website now for £10.99 for the collector’s edition single-disc CD and digital download, or £8.99 for the digital download only.
