December 20, 2025 by Amie Cranswick

Universal Pictures has released a trailer for director Aneil Karia’s (The Long Goodbye) modern retelling of the William Shakespeare classic Hamlet.

Riz Ahmed stars in the title role, as a man who returns to London to attends his father’s funeral, but when the spirit of his deceased parent appears before him claiming he was murdered by his brother Claudius, Hamlet sets out on a violent path of revenge.

Joining Ahmed in the cast are Morfydd Clark, Joe Alwyn, Sheeba Chaddha, Art Malik, and Timothy Spall. Watch the trailer below…

An electrifying reimagining of Shakespeare’s Hamlet, set in the world of a British South Asian family in contemporary London. Hamlet (Riz Ahmed) returns to London for the funeral of his father, but he is shocked when his uncle, Claudius, announces that he’s marrying Hamlet’s just-widowed mother.

After seeing his father’s ghost, who says he was murdered by Claudius, Hamlet becomes consumed by rage and revenge. He goes to violent lengths to avenge his father’s murder, questioning not only his role in the family business, but his own sanity.

Hamlet arrives in cinemas on February 6th.
