Trailer for Netflix’s World Cup comedy Mexico 86 starring Diego Luna

April 25, 2026 by Amie Cranswick

Netflix has shared a poster and trailer for Mexico 86, the upcoming comedy which tells the story of how Martin de la Torre, against all odds, helped bring the 1986 World Cup to Mexico.

Directed by Gabriel Ripstein, the film stars Diego Luna, Karla Souza, Daniel Giménez Cacho, Álvaro Guerrero, Memo Villegas, and Juan Pablo Fernández. Watch the trailer below…

Mexico has never won a World Cup… but someone decided that wasn’t a problem. Mexico 86 tells the story of Martín de la Torre, who found a way to climb all the way to the top and bring the 1986 World Cup to Mexico by any means necessary using nothing but ingenuity, audacity, and zero scruples. Because if you can’t win on the pitch… there are always other ways to play.

Mexico 86 arrives on Netflix on June 5th.
