Vinnie Jones was approached to play Juggernaut in Deadpool and Wolverine

March 7, 2024 by EJ Moreno

As Deadpool actor Karan Soni (Dopinder) revealed this week in Variety, we are preparing for several surprise cameos in Deadpool and Wolverine.

Sadly, fans of X-Men: The Last Stand won’t be able to see the return of Vinnie Jones, who played Juggernaut in the 2006 film.

Speaking to Yahoo Movies UK, Jones tells the outlet that he was reached out to appear in the third Deadpool movie. The actor reveals, “Funnily enough, I just got asked to do Deadpool, the new one now.”

He adds, “It’s such a drama putting that suit on mentally and physically. It had its mental toll because you’re in it, and you can’t do anything all day; you can only drink through a straw. So we couldn’t strike the deal for Deadpool 3. I wanted to do it, but they didn’t have the budget to put me in the suit.”

Jones does still have high praise, though: “But Deadpool’s my favorite movie of all fucking time, more or less.”

As for the last time he played Juggernaut, Jones does not look back at it fondly. The new director came on, and it was not the same role as I had signed on to do,” Jones said. “They diluted the dialogue … The director brought in so many moving parts and so many other actors that mine got diluted. I lost all interest quite early because I knew they were just taking me along … I was very upset, really. It was such a big stage, and I became an extra; that’s what happened.”

Deadpool & Wolverine is directed by Shawn Levy (Free Guy) and stars Reynolds alongside Deadpool veterans Stefan Kapacic (Colossus), Brianna Hildebrand (Negasonic Teenage Warhead), Morena Baccarin (Vanessa), Karan Soni (Dopinder), Leslie Uggams (Blind Al), Shioli Kutsuna (Yukio) and Rob Delaney (Peter) as well as Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, Jennifer Garner as Elektra and new additions Matthew Macfadyen (Succession) and Emma Corrin (The Crown) in as yet unspecified roles.

Deadpool and Wolverine is set for release on July 26th.
