Warner Bros.’ Joker origin movie to reportedly begin filming in May

February 22, 2018 by Gary Collinson

Back in August of last year it was reported that Warner Bros. had tapped Todd Phillips (The Hangover) to co-write and direct a Joker movie, separate from the DC Extended Universe, which will explore the origins of the Clown Prince of Crime.

Phillips turned in his script late last year, and it seems it has suitably impressed executives at Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment, as it is now being reported that production on the film is slated to begin on May 1st.

Also from early January. I could literally post this shit all day but I CHOOSE NOT TO. Because I care less and less with each passing day. pic.twitter.com/3TqUU1h1Tq

As you can see from the above, Martin Scorsese is seemingly now confirmed to produce alongside Phillips and DC’s Geoff Johns. Further details are being kept tightly under wraps, and as yet there’s been no further word on negotiations with actor Joaquin Phoenix, who was revealed earlier this month to be in talks to play the iconic Batman villain.

Assuming the above information is correct, then we can presumably expect the as-yet-untitled Joker origin story to arrive in theaters at some point in 2019, where it will be joined by DCEU releases Shazam! and Wonder Woman 2.
