Warner Bros.’ Salem’s Lot remake to skip theaters for streaming release

October 31, 2023 by Matt Rodgers

Warner Bros.’ Gary Dauberman-directed adaptation of Stephen King’s Salem’s Lot is set to bypass cinemas altogether and make its long-overdue debut on the Warner Bros. Discovery streaming platform.

Consigned to post-production hell and locked in the Warner Bros. crypt for over a year, there’s an air of inevitability about the studios’ decision to dump the vampire-horror on their streaming service.

According to sources close to Variety the decision to release Salem’s Lot on the small-screen is not a reflection of the film’s quality, but is due to a lack of content needed for Max in the face of the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strikes.

Originally intended for release in September 2022, the film was then delayed by WBD to April 2023, before being pulled indefinitely from the Warner Bros. release schedule.

Produced by James Wan, and directed by Annabelle writer Gary Dauberman, this latest adaptation of Stephen King’s 1975 horror-classic features Lewis Pullman (Bad Times at the El Royale, Top Gun: Maverick) as Ben Mears, a writer who returns to his home town of Jerusalem’s Lot, only to find it under threat from a cabal of vampires.

Pilou Asbæk (Game of Thrones) will play the villainous Richard Straker, Makenzie Leigh (The Assistant) is love-interest Susan Norton, Bill Camp (The Queen’s Gambit) stars as former high school teacher Matthew Burke, alongside Spencer Treat Clark (Glass) as gravedigger Mike Ryerson, and Alfre Woodard (Clemency) as Dr. Cody.
