Xolo Maridueña thanks Blue Beetle fans with first comments post-strike as Max premiere set for Friday

November 13, 2023 by Amie Cranswick

Having originally been slated as an HBO Max Original alongside the since-cancelled Batgirl, Warner Bros. made the decision to bump director Ángel Manuel Soto’s DC superhero adventure Blue Beetle to the big screen, although its release this past August amid the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes meant that the cast were unable to promote the DC Studios release.

It’s unlikely that would have made any difference to Blue Beetle’s box office results, the film grossing just $129 million worldwide in a year that’s seen several high profile superhero movie flops including DC’s The Flash (hell, even Marvel’s struggling with The Marvels opening to record lows for Marvel Studios).

Nevertheless, with the strike action now over, leading man Xolo Maridueña has taken to Instragram to express his pride in getting to bring Jaime Reyes to the big screen, stating that: “There is no dollar sign, no tweet, no headline, that can quantify the feeling side a child who sees their ancestry is heroic.”

If you’re yet to catch Blue Beetle and you’re a Max subscriber, then your weekend viewing could be sorted as the DC movie is set to premiere on Warner’s streaming service this coming Friday, November 17th and is also available on physical media now.

Recent college grad Jaime Reyes returns home full of aspirations for his future, only to find that home is not quite as he left it. As he searches to find his purpose in the world, fate intervenes when Jaime unexpectedly finds himself in possession of an ancient relic of alien biotechnology: the Scarab. When the Scarab suddenly chooses Jaime to be its symbiotic host, he is bestowed with an incredible suit of armor capable of extraordinary and unpredictable powers, forever changing his destiny as he becomes the Super Hero BLUE BEETLE.

Blue Beetle stars Xolo Maridueña (Cobra Kai), Adriana Barraza (Rambo: Last Blood), Damían Alcázar (Narcos: Mexico), Elpidia Carrillo (Mayans M.C.), Bruna Marquezine (God Save the King), Raoul Max Trujillo (Sicario), Susan Sarandon (Dead Man Walking), George Lopez (Rio), Belissa Escobedo (Hocus Pocus 2) and Harvey Guillén (What We Do in the Shadows).

Blue Beetle will be streaming on Max from Friday, November 17th.
