Y: The Last Man is extinct after one season

October 18, 2021 by Matt Rodgers

For a show about the end of the world, it appears that Y: The Last Man has faced its own extinction before it even got going with the news that it has been cancelled by FX. The long-awaited adaptation of Brian K. Vaughan’s lauded graphic novel only debuted its 6-episode first season in September, but now showrunner Eliza Clark has confirmed that they will not be moving forward with a second.

Despite a 73% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and the assertion that there is “so much more left to tell”, it appears that FX weren’t convinced, although Clark does suggest that they will try and find a new home for the show, saying “we know that someone else is going to be very lucky to have this team and this story”.

Y: The Last Man takes place in a post-apocalyptic world where everyone and every animal with a Y chromosome has disappeared save for the lead character and his pet monkey. The series has been in development for quite some time with FX having filmed a pilot nearly two years ago. However, the network underwent an extensive ‘retooling’ of the series, recasting several of the roles that included main character Yorrick and making his pet monkey Ampersand a CGI creation.

Y: The Last Man stars Ben Schnetzer as Yorick, Ashley Romans as Agent 355, Diana Bang as Dr. Allison Mann, Olivia Thirlby as

Yorick’s sister Hero and Diane Lane as Yorick’s mother, Congresswoman Jennifer Brown.

What do you think of the decision to cancel Y: The Last Man? Had you even watched it? What did you think? Let us know by heading to our social channels @FlickeringMyth…
