Matthew Vaughn joins The Fantastic Four reboot as a producer

February 22, 2013 by admin

Despite passing on the opportunity to helm Kick-Ass 2 and pulling out of the director’s chair on Fox’s upcoming sequel X-Men: Days of Future Past, it seems that British filmmaker Matthew Vaughn is keen to remain involved with the superhero genre. Vaughn is currently serving as producer on both sequels, and now we can add another comic book adaptation to that list with 20th Century Fox’s Marvel creative consultant Mark Millar revealing via Twitter that Vaughn has now joined the producing team on the studio’s forthcoming Fantastic Four reboot.

The Fantastic Four reboot is currently in development under director Josh Trank, who made quite a name for himself last year with his found-footage super powers flick Chronicle. The film will be the third time that Fox has tackled Marvel’s first family, with Ioan Gruffudd (Reed Richards), Jessica Alba (Susan Storm), Chris Evans (Johnny Storm) and Michael Chiklis (Ben Grimm) previously bringing the iconic team of superheroes to life in 2005’s Fantastic Four and the 2007 sequel Fantastic 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer, both of which were directed by Tim Story.

Vaughn is yet to choose his next directorial project following 2011’s X-Men: First Class. After dropping out of X-Men: Days of Future Past, he was strongly linked to the director’s chair on Star Wars: Episode VII (a role which has since gone to Star Trek Into Darkness helmer J.J. Abrams), and there has also been talk that he could reunite with Kick-Ass co-creator Matthew Vaughn on an adaptation of their comic book series The Secret Service, although nothing has been confirmed as yet.

The Fantastic Four is due for release on March 6th, 2015.
