Dan Aykroyd reveals plot details about Ghostbusters 3

May 20, 2013 by admin

Remember Ghostbusters III? Well apparently it’s still going ahead. Despite the first instance of the movie being mentioned shortly after the release of Ghostbusters II in 1989, Aykroyd, Harold Ramis and Ivan Reitman have been struggling to get the movie into production. After having gone through several scripts and writers, it appears as though they are working towards something everyone is happy with. In an interview on Larry King Now, Aykroyd revealed details of the plot of the third movie.

“It’s based on new research that’s being done in particle physics by the young men and women at Columbia University… Basically, there’s research being done that I can say that the world or the dimension that we live in, our four planes of existence – length, height, width and time – become threatened by some of the research that’s being done. Ghostbusters – new Ghostbusters – have to come and solve the problem.”

But of course, the big question on everyone’s lips – will Ghostbusters III feature Bill Murray as Peter Venkman?

“If Billy wants to walk in the door and be in the movie, we will find a place.”

One person it does seem returning to the franchise will be Larry King himself who had a cameo in the first movie: “Of course, we’re going to be doing you in your new format as you comment on what’s happening in Manhattan up there at Morningside Heights. It’s going to be quite a spectacular scene once the stuff starts to break.”

Ivan Reitman is set to return to direct Ghostbusters III which has had a script written by Gene Stupnitsky (Bad Teacher), Lee Eisenberg (Year One) and Ethan Cohen (Men in Black 3). There is no release date, but some speculation has suggested it could come out next year to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the franchise.
