Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. success paves the way for Star Wars TV series?

September 30, 2013 by admin

A few years back it seemed that the only chance of another visit to the Star Wars universe (in live-action form at least) was the long-in-development TV series Star Wars: Underworld, before George Lucas decided to shelve the project due to budgetary concerns. But of course it’s all changed following Disney’s big purchase of Lucasfilm, with the Mouse House currently developing a new Sequel Trilogy beginning in 2015 with J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars: Episode VII, and now it seems that the ratings success of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. may have convinced Disney and ABC to take a trip to a galaxy far, far away.

According to the ever-reliable Blue Sky Disney, it seems that ideas are being batted around behind closed doors at Lucasfilm, with the company having held preliminary talks with ABC over a new show, which is unlikely to move forward until the Sequel Trilogy is up and running. Apparently it’s unclear whether they’ll end up going with Lucas’ ‘Deadwood in Space’ concept or start things over from scratch with something a little less dark in tone, with the site reporting that “there’s a debate as to whether or not a television show would take place in between the Prequel Trilogy and the Original Trilogy, or should they go forward with a series that’s between the Original Trilogy and the Sequel Trilogy.  This way they could play on the new mythos this new trilogy is creating.”

Are you excited over the possibility of a small screen Star Wars series, and if so, which direction would you like to see it go? Let us know in the comments below…
