Warner Bros. chief on expanding the DC TV Universe and bringing Wonder Woman to the screen

October 6, 2013 by admin

While Marvel Studios has set out its stall for Phase Two and beyond of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with Thor: The Dark World, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Guardians of the Galaxy, The Avengers: Age of Ultron and even Ant-Man all on the horizon (with three as-yet-unrevealed movies also slated for 2016 and 2017), it’s fair to say that Warner Bros. has struggled to make use of its extensive DC Comics library to kick-start its own superhero movie universe.

The studio made steps in the right direction this year with Man of Steel, but as the announcement of 2015’s Batman vs. Superman has shown, WB appears reluctant to commit to any projects outside of their World’s Finest comfort zone. Well, on the big screen at least – turning to television and we’ve seen several projects announced these past couple of months in the planned Arrow spin-off The Flash, the Jim Gordon-centred Gotham and the return of Hellblazer in Constantine.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Warner Bros. Chief Executive Officer Kevin Tsujihara admitted that it’s been a “missed opportunity” by the studio when it comes to making use of its DC characters to launch movie franchises beyond The Dark Knight and Man of Steel, although he went on to reveal that WB has “huge plans for a number of other DC properties on TV.” And it seems that a certain Amazon Princess is a priority for the studio, with Tsujihara adding that, “We need to get Wonder Woman on the big screen or TV.”

How do you feel about Warner Bros. expanding its DC universe on the small screen? Let us know in the comments below…
