Lee Pace talks Guardians of the Galaxy’s Ronan the Accuser

May 30, 2014 by Gary Collinson

While The Avengers’ mid-credits villain Thanos is set to make an appearance in Marvel’s next Cinematic Universe offering Guardians of the Galaxy, the Mad Titan will play second fiddle to the film’s main antagonist, the Kree warlord Ronan the Accuser, playing by Lee Pace (The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug). During an interview with HitFix about his new film Halt and Catch Fire, Pace offered up a few thoughts on the cosmic bad guy:

“I’m really excited about this character. I mean he’s nuts. I mean I’ve never played anything like it and I’ve had such a good, it’s one of those things where you don’t know how to approach something like this. This is not Joe MacMillan [from Halt and Catch Fire]. You can’t think, ‘Well, you know, this is my relationship with my father…’ It’s not that. There’s none of that, you now, kind of ‘This is how I would go about dealing with these problems.’ It’s a complete kind of act of imagination. But in the hands of James Gunn, I’m such a fan of his movies. So it’s very much a creation of his and I found my self being like, ‘Alright, let’s do it. You tell me what you’re into here.'”

Guardians of the Galaxy is set for release on July 31st in the UK and August 1st in North America, with James Gunn (Super) a cast that also includes Chris Pratt (The Lego Movie) as Star-Lord, Zoe Saldana (Star Trek Into Darkness) as Gamora, Dave Bautista (Riddick) as Drax the Destroyer, Bradley Cooper (American Hustle) as Rocket Raccoon, Vin Diesel (Fast & Furious 6) as Groot, Benicio Del Toro (Sin City) as The Collector, Lee Pace (The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug) as Ronan the Accuser, Karen Gillan (Doctor Who) as Nebula, Djimon Hounsou (Blood Diamond) as Korath, John C. Reilly (Step Brothers) as Rhomman Dey, and Glenn Close (Damages) as Nova Prime Rael. Watch the latest trailer here.
