Terminator: Genisys sequels land 2017 and 2018 release dates

September 6, 2014 by James Garcia

Paramount must feel pretty confident about Thor: The Dark World director Alan Taylor’s Terminator reboot, the ill-titled Terminator: Genisys, because they’ve just greenlit two sequels. Simply called Terminator 2 and Terminator 3 (for now), they will hit theaters on May 19 2017 and June 29 2018, respectively.

The two films face stiff competition at the box office, as 2017 is already crowded with several high-profile tentpole films. Terminator 2 has that May date all to itself for now, but arrives a week before The LEGO Movie 2 and two weeks after one of Marvel’s untitled mystery films. Terminator 3 faces a tougher battle on its June 29 date, sharing the spot with an untitled Fox/Dreamworks Animation picture and just week before yet another Marvel movie.

Before we set our sights on the future, though, we need to see how Terminator: Genisys fares first. It has a lot of fan goodwill to win back after ho-hum installments Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines and Terminator Salvation, but with a cast that includes Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones), Jason Clarke (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes), Jai Courtney (Jack Reacher), J.K. Simmons (The Spider-Man trilogy), Matt Smith (Doctor Who), and the Terminator himself, Arnold Schwarzenegger, its future looks bright.

Terminator: Genisys hits theaters on July 1 2015.
